Description
A nostalgia-filled comfort dish, Classic Salisbury Steak features seasoned beef patties in a rich gravy, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
Instructions
- Prepare the Patty Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to mix until fully incorporated and shape into oval patties, about 1-inch thick.
- Brown the Patties: Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden-brown. Remove and set aside.
- Sauté the Mushrooms: In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 5 minutes until tender and slightly browned.
- Simmer with Broth: Pour the beef broth into the skillet. Bring to a simmer and return the patties to the skillet. Cover and let simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- Thicken the Gravy: Mix cornstarch with the water in a bowl until smooth, then stir into the skillet. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens.
- Serve and Enjoy: Plate the patties, spoon gravy and mushrooms over the top, and serve immediately.
