- 3 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet Potatoes
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon ground pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 teaspoons thyme
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Peel and thinly slice the potatoes to about an eighth of an inch thick.
- In a saucepan, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, salt, pepper, bay leaf, thyme, and minced garlic. Heat until just below boiling.
- In the greased baking dish, arrange a layer of sliced potatoes. Pour some of the cream mixture over this layer and top with grated parmesan cheese.
- Continue layering potatoes and cream mixture until all ingredients are used, finishing with the cream mixture.
- Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until golden brown and tender.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, ensure potato slices are uniform for even cooking. Adjust seasonings to taste.
