Description

Lion House Rolls are soft and fluffy homemade rolls perfect for gatherings or weeknight dinners, enriched with whole milk and a hint of sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¼ cups whole milk, warmed but not hot
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large beaten egg
  • 34 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 3 teaspoons unsalted butter, melted for brushing

Instructions

  1. Combine Milk and Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk and yeast. Allow this mixture to sit for about five minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix Other Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, softened butter, beaten egg, and salt. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  3. Combine Mixtures: Add the yeast mixture to the bowl with the other ingredients. Stir well to combine all elements thoroughly.
  4. Add Flour Gradually: Gradually add the all-purpose flour, one cup at a time. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Let it Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl. Cover it with a clean towel and allow it to rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about one hour.
  7. Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough gently and divide it into equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll.
  8. Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes until puffy.
  9. Preheat the Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Brush with Butter: Once the rolls have risen, brush the tops with melted butter.
  11. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  12. Serve Warm: Remove the rolls from the oven and serve warm.

Notes

These rolls can be made ahead; shape and refrigerate overnight before baking.
