Description
Lion House Rolls are soft and fluffy homemade rolls perfect for gatherings or weeknight dinners, enriched with whole milk and a hint of sweetness.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ¼ cups whole milk, warmed but not hot
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large beaten egg
- 3–4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 3 teaspoons unsalted butter, melted for brushing
Instructions
- Combine Milk and Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk and yeast. Allow this mixture to sit for about five minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Mix Other Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, softened butter, beaten egg, and salt. Stir until smooth and creamy.
- Combine Mixtures: Add the yeast mixture to the bowl with the other ingredients. Stir well to combine all elements thoroughly.
- Add Flour Gradually: Gradually add the all-purpose flour, one cup at a time. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let it Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl. Cover it with a clean towel and allow it to rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about one hour.
- Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough gently and divide it into equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll.
- Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat the Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush with Butter: Once the rolls have risen, brush the tops with melted butter.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
- Serve Warm: Remove the rolls from the oven and serve warm.
Notes
These rolls can be made ahead; shape and refrigerate overnight before baking.
