Description

A soothing homemade syrup made with rich elderberries and mullein, perfect for boosting your immune system and enjoying with tea or pancakes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup dried elderberries
  • 1 cup mullein leaves (dried or fresh)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 lemon (juiced)

Instructions

  1. Combine the elderberries and mullein in a saucepan with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for about 30 minutes, until the liquid reduces by half.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl.
  4. Cool the liquid slightly before mixing in the honey and lemon juice.
  5. Transfer the syrup into a clean glass jar and store in the refrigerator for up to two months.

Notes

Use maple syrup for a vegan version or replace mullein with peppermint for a different flavor. Store in a glass jar, and freeze for longer storage.
