A comforting and hearty homemade lasagna made with layers of noodles, savory ground beef, and rich cheese.

- Lasagna noodles
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cans (15 ounces each) tomato sauce
- 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook the ground beef with chopped onion and minced garlic over medium heat for 7-10 minutes until browned, then drain excess fat.
- Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper; let simmer for 30 minutes.
- Mix together ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
- Layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella in the baking dish, repeating until all ingredients are used, ending with meat sauce on top.
- Sprinkle remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top; cover with foil.
- Bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 25 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbling.
- Let rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Lasagna tastes even better the next day and can be frozen for later use. Be careful not to overcook to avoid dry noodles.
