Description

Delightful Baja fish tacos with crispy battered fish and fresh toppings, perfect for family gatherings or weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb white fish fillets (like cod or tilapia)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup cold water
  • Oil for frying
  • Taco shells or tortillas
  • Toppings (shredded cabbage, salsa, lime wedges, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the dry ingredients are blended evenly.
  2. Create batter: Gradually whisk in the cold water to form a smooth batter. It should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon but still pourable. Adjust the amount of water if needed.
  3. Heat oil: In a deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Make sure the oil is hot enough to fry by dropping a small amount of batter into it; it should sizzle immediately.
  4. Coat fish and fry: Dip the fish fillets into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy, approximately 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Drain fish: Once cooked, remove the fish from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  6. Assemble tacos: In warm taco shells or tortillas, place the crispy fish and top with shredded cabbage, salsa, and lime wedges as desired.

Notes

Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve a crispy texture. Customize toppings for a personalized meal.
