Description

A warm, spiced elderberry syrup infused with star anise and cinnamon, perfect for soothing chilly nights.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh elderberries
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 23 star anise pods
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the elderberries, water, star anise, cinnamon stick, and ginger in a saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low.
  3. Simmer gently for 30 to 40 minutes until the liquid reduces by half.
  4. Strain the mixture using a fine mesh strainer into a clean jar.
  5. Add the honey and vanilla extract, stirring until well combined.
  6. Cool to room temperature before sealing and store in the refrigerator.

Notes

This syrup can last up to two weeks in the refrigerator or can be frozen for up to 6 months.
