Description

A warm, comforting apple pie made with a flaky crust and a sweet-tart apple filling. Perfect for family gatherings and holiday celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water
  • 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Cut in the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in ice water gradually until dough forms a ball. Divide, shape into discs, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  5. Roll out one disc of dough to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place the rolled dough in the pie pan.
  6. Pour the apple filling into the crust, dot with butter, and cover with the second rolled dough, cutting slits for steam to escape.
  7. Brush the crust with beaten egg and bake for 15 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) for an additional 35-45 minutes.
  8. Cool the pie for 30 minutes before serving.

Notes
