Description
A warm, comforting apple pie made with a flaky crust and a sweet-tart apple filling. Perfect for family gatherings and holiday celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water
- 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Cut in the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in ice water gradually until dough forms a ball. Divide, shape into discs, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Roll out one disc of dough to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place the rolled dough in the pie pan.
- Pour the apple filling into the crust, dot with butter, and cover with the second rolled dough, cutting slits for steam to escape.
- Brush the crust with beaten egg and bake for 15 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) for an additional 35-45 minutes.
- Cool the pie for 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
