Description

Warm, soft pretzels paired with a rich, creamy cheese dip make for the perfect snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let this mixture sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Make the dough: After the yeast has activated, add the flour and salt. Stir until the dough starts to come together, then knead until smooth and elastic.
  3. Let it rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  4. Preheat the oven: While the dough rises, preheat your oven to 450°F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Shape the pretzels: Once risen, turn the dough out, divide into 12 pieces, and shape into pretzels.
  6. Boil the pretzels: Bring about 8 cups of water to a boil, add baking soda, and boil pretzels for 30 seconds on each side.
  7. Sprinkle with salt and bake: Place pretzels on the baking sheet, sprinkle with coarse sea salt, and bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Make the cheese dip: Melt butter, whisk in flour, add milk slowly, and cook until thickened. Stir in cheddar until smooth.
  9. Serve and enjoy: Serve warm pretzels alongside cheese dip for the ultimate snack experience.

Notes

Ensure yeast is fresh for optimal rising. Adjust baking time based on your oven’s performance.
